Lit by Jouveer Naidoo 3rd December 2022
We celebrate and remember the life of Kay. With his passing he leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion. Kay was a quiet person, a man of few words, but his presence around us was known. His actions were louder than his words, always helping quietly in the background. I will miss looking out on the back yard and seeing him; the small conversations we had over dinner; the welcoming sense of love he provided. Leaving his home and country to come to New Zealand when we were younger must have been challenging, but a challenge undertaken to be close with those whom he loved. I am incredibly grateful for being able to grow up with him by my side throughout my childhood and share these memories with him. While he is gone from our sights he will never be gone from our hearts. Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glint on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you wake in the morning hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circling flight. I am the soft starlight at night. Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep. May the love and compassion he had for others live on through us
